FieldScope Updates & Enhancements: May 10, 2021
FeaturedThe FieldScope team released a new suite of updates to the platform on May 10, 2021. Read on to learn about some of these new changes intended to enhance your experience in working with FieldScope:
- Filtering by Organization
- Filtering by Group (or chapter)
- Rich text formatting on saved visualizations
- Saved visualizations are set to public as default
- Easy to access copy link on visualizations
Filtering by Organization
When participants sign up for a project hosted on FieldScope, they are required to fill out a field on the school or organization they are part of. Now when creating filter sets (read more on creating filter sets), you can filter by organization to select one or more organizations.
Filtering by Group
Some projects also have their participants set up as part of groups. FrogWatch USA is an example of this kind of project. When participants sign up for the FrogWatch project on FieldScope, they are required to select a group to be affiliated with (or what FrogWatch calls a chapter). That is because many participants collecting data for FrogWatch are trained as part of a chapter local to them. Participants can also select “Unaffiliated” as their group affiliation if they are not part of a chapter.
Now in FieldScope there is an option to filter by group. Using this option you can select one or more groups and generate a filtered set of data that you can apply to other data displays. In this way, chapters in FrogWatch can easily create a filter set that includes all of their chapter’s data and then make savable, shareable data visualizations using that filter set (read more on visualizin data in FieldScope). The filter set will update over time with new data added to that group/chapter.
Rich text formatting on saved visualizations
When saving a visualization you can now annotate it with rich text formatting. This is a helpful way of giving potential viewers of your visualization more information and context about the included data. To add annotations to a visualization, click the information icon as shown below and add your content to the info box.
Once saved, anytime you share the link to the visualization with someone else, they will see your annotations and notes that you added.
In FieldScope, you can create as many savable, shareable dashboards as you would like. They can be accessed from the Visualizations section of the tool in the list of My Visualizations. Clicking on the three dots on the right of each row listing your visualization will pull up a menu with an option to copy link. Clicking this will copy the link to your visualization to your browser so that you can paste it into anywhere you want to share it--an email, a social media post, etc.
Please check back often, a we will be releasing more enhancements and updates throughout 2021.
