Adding Photos and Other Media
All projects have the option to enable adding media during data uploads. This is an important feature for projects that rely on media for data, but not all projects require these data types. If a project you are participating in has enabled media uploads, photos, documents, audio, and video can all be added to your observation. Some projects allow only some of these options while others do not allow the uploading of files at all. The option to upload media is at the bottom of the observation data entry form, as shown at right. |
Multiple files of the same type of media and files of more than one type of media can be uploaded to the same observation at the same time. The allowable file types are:
- photos (.jpg, .png)
- documents (.pdf)
- audio (.wav, mp3)
- video (.mp4)
Each media upload is allowed a label and description. The label should be a short title for the media. The description can be longer with more details.
Some projects require specific file name formats. You can verify with your project organizer if there are any upload or naming standards particular to your project.
Number of photos or other media objects
There are no limits on the number of media objects you can add to an observation, as long as the project you are contributing to has enabled the form to accept the media type(s).
Allowable file sizes
Photos should have a file size of 5 MB or less. Audio, video, and document file types can be up to 100 MB in size. If your file is larger than this, you may need to edit it into multiple, smaller files or compress it.
Media can be added, removed, or edited at a later date by editing your observation.
For instructions on how to view and interact with media that has been added to a project, see this additional article.
